Hydronic Heating Page
What is hydronic heating?
---Hydronic heating is using water or steam to move heat energy from a boiler to the living space in the home. Radiators, baseboard or radiant floors are the most popular ways of radiating this heat from the water to the people and objects within the rooms. Typically, these systems are more expensive to install. However, radiant heat is very comforting and sometimes totally silent. There is no better, more comfortable heating system available. Air conditioning requires an alternative system, which can again add to the cost.
Is hydronic heating used in new construction or remodel projects?
---Yes it is. A few homes are heated totally with hydronic heat. This is quite often done with radiant floors. Many new home owners choose to heat only a portion of the home with radiant floors. Often times these are areas that will have tile floors or finished areas of the basement. There are many methods and options available for this and we have the experience to share with you as you consider these investments.
What is available for replacements?
---If a boiler supplies the heat for your home we have several choices to consider. Burnham makes some very reliable cast iron boilers. Some of these are now Energy Star rated. Cast iron is a very reliable, low tech type of boiler that will provide efficiency percentages in the low 80s. An alternative some customers have chosen is high efficiency condensing. We have been using Triangle Tube high efficiency boilers for several years. They have the best designed heat exchanger we have found and their performance history supports our opinion.
---Some of our customers are surprised to find out that their new boiler can provide domestic hot water at very high efficiencies too. This is called indirect domestic water heating and we can show you how we can install the correct equipment to accomplish this task without another heating device to maintain.
We enjoy doing boiler replacements and take pride in our workmanship. We can handle any residential application as well as commercial buildings with multiple boiler systems. Give us a call with any questions you might have about hydronic systems.
